Tools
Before I go over the specific tools I use in my 14’x10′ workshop, the FTC requires me to let you know I could make a small commission if you use any of my links.
Are you happy now FTC?
I do own every single item listed below and purchased them with my own money. Any tool listed is a product I can stand behind and would purchases again if I had to.
Pros
I work in a very small space and every inch of room is precious so this worked perfect!
- Can be easily clamped to table.
- Seems to be exact same build as the Triton, at half the cost.
- Price is very affordable compared to a table top spindle sander.
Cons
- Dust extraction could be better.
- Finding sanding sleeves are a challenge since they are shorter than standard sleeves.
- Would not use for extended period of time but for most projects this is more than adequate.
Pros
- Easy and fast setup.
- Laserbox software is simple and adequate for most cutting and engraving.
- No need for blocks or measuring height when setting laser, just use the built in height gauge.
- Diode lasers offer finer details on engraving versus CO2 lasers.
Cons
- Could not get the wireless setup fully. Would connect but that is it.
- No stops on the stepper motor. Sometimes it will go out of bounds if not configured correctly.
Pros
This replaced my Ryobi sander when it died after years of use and I wish I would have bought this sooner.
- Little to no dust, even with just the dust bag connected.
- My hands no longer hurt after sanding.
- Price is very affordable.
Cons
- Need a connector to hook up to a dust extractor.
- Offers variable speed, however, I have yet found a need to change it below the max setting.
Pros
- Can breathe easily.
- Filters dust very well, truly impressed.
- Was able to fit my 10 year old daughter as well as myself just by adjusting straps.
Make sure to get the the filters to go with it here.
Cons
- Straps feel flimsy. I have seen complaints of them breaking but I have not had that issue.
- Comfort is just okay, not great but not horrible.
Pros
A framing square is fine to use but when you need precision, a machinist square is a much better option.
- Much more accurate than a framing square.
- Great for ensuring 90° on a joiner, table saw, etc.
Cons
- Larger ones will be more expensive.
Pros
- Easy setup and cleaning.
- Store excess paint in the container just by putting the included lid. I would buy extra containers if switching often.
- Can use latex, oil or poly for spraying.
- No air hose needed, just run and extension cord and spray.
Cons
- Wish it would have came with two containers.
- Some paints leave a splatter while spraying but disappear after drying.
Pros
I owned a DEWALT cordless router and it burned up but this Makita is a BEAST!
- I have used this on ash, cherry and black walnut without any issues.
- Addons are interchangeable with its corded counterpart.
- Soft start.
- Great battery life.
Make sure to get batteries and the Plunge Base to get even more out of this router.
Cons
- A few of my round over bits did not fit correctly because of the diameter of the base.
- Watch your fingers when holding the base, don’t ask.
